Richard Jefferson is returning to the San Antonio Spurs after opting out of his old contract that would have paid him $15 million next season. The Spurs announced Wednesday they have re-signed the veteran swingman.

Jefferson re-signing with Spurs

All signs point toward Richard Jefferson (notes) re-signing with the San Antonio Spurs today, according to San Antonio Express-News. Jefferson, of course, could have had $15.2 million in salary next year with the Spurs but he opted out in order to cash in on Historic Free Agent Year 2010. That dough never came for him and now he’s re-signing for a lot less, the paper reports

Yesterday, everybody went, “what, really?” when Richard Jefferson opted out of his $15.2 million final year with the San Antonio Spurs. Several NBA sources assume Jefferson and the Spurs had at least the framework of a new deal in place before his decision to opt out.
