Buford, 51, was arrested about 11 p.m. Friday in the downtown area, near Martin and Pecos-La Trinidad Streets, after police received a call about him hitting a fence and leaving the scene, the report said.Another witness reported seeing him driving in circles in a parking lot. The report said an officer conducted a field sobriety test on Buford, but Buford was unable to complete the tasks. He was booked into the Bexar County Jail, but released on bond the following day.In a statement issued by the Spurs this weekend, Buford said that he regrets the incident. The statement also said he suffers from Type 1 diabetes and had been experiencing low blood sugar prior to his arrest. However, in the police report, the officer said Buford had the smell of alcohol on his breath, and in a liquid in a cup in his car.The report said police obtained a search warrant to withdraw blood for testing after Buford refused to give a sample voluntarily.Additionally, it said police seized 1.3 grams of a prescription drug, described as a narcotic, which Buford told them he takes for his diabetes.

Tim Griffin of the San Antonio Express-News (blog) reports:

Dwayne Schintzius was one of the original characters in the history of the Spurs franchise.

Old-school fans still remember his mullet haircut and his free-throw shooting woes during his brief one-season stint with the team. He was the Spurs’ No. 1 choice in the 1990 draft, but played only 42 games with the team before he was swapped to Sacramento after his rookie season.

Schintzius believes his mullet-style lobster haircut he wore during his season with the team was the major reason for the trade.

It seems that then-Spurs general manager Bob Bass didn’t like the haircut and wanted his prized rookie to trim his locks.

“He told me to cut it,” Schintzius told old friend Joey Johnson of the Tampa Tribune (hat tip Project Spurs.com). “So I got it cut and sent him the shavings in an envelope. I’m not sure he appreciated that. And then, away I went.”

Jul 14, 2011 – Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Toronto Raptors president and GM Bryan Colangelo has found three candidates to be the team’s new GM. Those candidates are ex-New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower, Philadelphia 76ers GM Ed Stefanski, and San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey.

Colangelo may or may not step down as general manager (but maintain his position as president), depending on whether he can find a replacement GM he likes.

If the Raptors do hire a new GM, it’s unclear exactly what his relationship with Colangelo would be. Colangelo would retain veto power on basketball moves, and might continue to participate in basketball-related decisions.

Colangelo had a good run with the Phoenix Suns and a nice start to his career in Toronto, leading to NBA Executive Of The Year awards in 2005 and 2007. But the Raptors have fallen on hard times in the past few years, finishing below .500 in each season since 2008-09 (and losing Chris Bosh in 2010). The Raptors won just 22 games in 2010-11.

Not too surprisingly, TP has plans to hoop in France (where he played professionally for 4 seasons prior to joining the San Antonio Spurs) during the NBA’s lockout. From BasketUSA (via SB Nation): “On the lockout, Parker said that it ‘is a problem of rich,’ apparently intimating that the owners are at fault despite his signing a four-year, $50 million extension with the Spurs last fall. This isn’t exactly a surprising stance, however, as there’s no reason for him to blame his fellow players for the problems keeping the NBA from playing next season. If the NBA doesn’t play next season, or at least if the lockout lasts into 2012, Parker plans to give a big boost to ASVEL — the team he part-owns and manages in France. ‘If in January-February, the NBA says the lockout will last until the end of the season, I will come to France, but the NBA season can start anytime — They will not say in October that the strike will last all year, it does not work like that,’ Parker said. ‘But if so, I’d head over to the ASVEL because I’m general manager and executive director.’”

Read More: Tony Parker (G – SAN), San Antonio Spurs

Tony Parker played four seasons in France before being selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2001 NBA Draft. If the lockout lasts into January, and it seems like it might, Parker has recently said that he will resume his French basketball career.

Parker held a press conference recently in France, and according to French basketball website BasketUSA, the 29-year-old point guard had some interesting comments on the lockout and a possible return to France.

On the lockout, Parker said that it “is a problem of rich,” apparently intimating that the owners are at fault despite his signing a four-year, $50 million extension with the Spurs last fall.

“If in January-February, the NBA says the lockout will last until the end of the season, I will come to France, but the NBA season can start anytime — They will not say in October that the strike will last all year, it does not work like that,” Parker said. “But if so, I’d head over to the ASVEL because I’m general manager and executive director.”

ASVEL has already signed three players with names familiar to NCAA basketball fans in Jamie Skeen, Kim Tillie and former NBA player Hilton Armstrong, but Parker would definitely be a nice addition.

In fact, he might be able to be the first in the world to be named Most Valuable Player and Executive of the Year in the same season.
