SAN ANTONIO — A police report released Monday gives details about the weekend arrest of the San Antonio Spurs’ General Manager on a charge of driving while intoxicated with an open container.R.C. Buford, 51, was arrested about 11 p.m. Friday in the downtown area, near Martin and Pecos-La Trinidad Streets, after police received a call about him hitting a fence and leaving the scene, the report said.Another witness reported seeing him driving in circles in a parking lot. The report said an officer conducted a field sobriety test on Buford, but Buford was unable to complete the tasks.He was booked into the Bexar County Jail, but released on bond the following day.In a statement issued by the Spurs this weekend, Buford said that he regrets the incident. The statement also said he suffers from Type 1 diabetes and had been experiencing low blood sugar prior to his arrest.However, in the police report, the officer said Buford had the smell of alcohol on his breath, and in a liquid in a cup in his car.The report said police obtained a search warrant to withdraw blood for testing after Buford refused to give a sample voluntarily.Additionally, it said police seized 1.3 grams of a prescription drug, described as a narcotic, which Buford told them he takes for his diabetes.

Spurs General Manager RC Buford was arrested late Friday night after crashing into a fence in San Antonio, and fortunately, nobody was hurt. Some details via KSAT: “Spurs general manager R.C. Buford was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a fence, San Antonio Police said. A police spokesman confirmed Buford crashed in the 500 block of N. Leona just west of downtown late Friday night. The police department said an officer from the Bexar County Hospital District first responded to the scene. SAPD then arrested Buford.Records at the magistrate’s office show Buford was charged with driving while intoxicated with an open container.He posted bond and was released early Saturday. A brief statement released by the Spurs on Saturday says Buford was involved in a single-car accident Friday night. The statement says Buford is a type 1 diabetic and that the incident was precipitated by a “severe low blood sugar reaction.” According to the release, a San Antonio police officer responded to the scene, detained Buford and charged him with possession of an open container and a DUI. There were no injuries. A police spokesman didn’t immediately return phone calls from The Associated Press. Buford apologized to the community, fans and the Spurs.
