Carmelo Anthony (notes) has one more year left on his contract with the Denver Nuggets before he can opt out of it and become an unrestricted free agent. The Nuggets are feeling like he may do just that and the team "is prepared to trade Melo rather than let him walk" next summer, according to a source for the Denver Post.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have an extremely important player that becomes an unrestricted free agent at midnight Eastern tonight and the team wants to impress him not just with wads and wads of cash for him and his friends, but also with the direction of the team. Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that LeBron James (notes) should be expecting to hear soon that Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw is the new head coach of the Cavaliers.
